- Barrick Gold Corp. proposed to change its name to Barrick Mining Corp. as the company aims to increase its production of copper. The proposal comes after Barrick completed feasibility studies for the Reko Diq copper project in Pakistan and the Lumwana copper expansion project in Zambia. "Both projects will support our goal to organically grow our production volumes, particularly in copper, and as such we are proposing to change our name from Barrick Gold Corporation to Barrick Mining Corporation, to reflect the company's changing production profile," Barrick Gold Chairman John Thornton said in a statement. The Ontario-headquartered miner aims to boost its output of gold equivalent ounces by 30% by 2030. Ramp-up at the Pueblo Viejo gold mine in the Dominican Republic is ongoing, prefeasibility work for the Fourmile gold project in Nevada has started, and operations have been restarted at the Porgera gold mine in Papua New Guinea. In February, Barrick Gold partnered with Zambia to drive mining exploration and increase the country's annual copper output to 30 million metric tons. READ MORE
