- Codelco unveiled a $650 million project to supply recycled water to its Andina copper mine in Chile. The state-owned miner applied for an environmental license for a system that would pump water from the tailings dam and other sources to the concentrator plant 70 km away. A decadelong drought has left many mines in central Chile facing water shortages, with miners seeking to increase recycled water volumes, invest in desalination plants, or use seawater directly in operations. - Li-Cycle Holdings Corp. closed a $475 million loan from the US Energy Department's Loan Programs Office to finance the construction of a lithium-ion battery resource recovery facility in Rochester, New York, the company said Nov. 7. Li-Cycle said it aims for the facility to produce up to 8,250 metric tons of battery-grade lithium carbonate and 72,000 metric tons of mixed hydroxide precipitate (MHP) per year. The company also entered an agreement with Glencore Ltd. for 100% offtake of the MHP produced at the Rochester facility. Li-Cycle estimates the total capital investment for the facility will reach $960 million by mechanical completion, with an estimated remaining cost to complete the project of $487 million. READ MORE
